Valentine’s Day is around the corner and while it might not be everyone’s favourite holiday to celebrate, House of Jude's theme is “self-love” and I think everyone can get on board with that! We often talk about self-care and the importance of exercise, meditation, drinking water and taking time for yourself. What we don’t often discuss is how that is in fact just providing yourself with the basic necessities of life! The past two years have been one heck of a rollercoaster and this year, Valentine’s Day NEEDS to be about treating yourself. Make it a priority. Make it your mission to go above and beyond for yourself. Don’t wait for someone else to run you a bath, buy you flowers, order your favourite dinner or buy you that shirt you’ve been eyeing for the last month. Treat yourself to all of these things and more for Valentine’s Day. If you’re wondering where to start, we are sharing some inexpensive DIY activities that you can do, right from the comfort of your own home.
Spa day
While it might not be possible to get to the spa (bonus if you can!) it is possible to treat yourself to an at-home spa experience. Having a bath is great, but you deserve more - really create an ambiance! Light your favourite candle, buy yourself luxurious bath salts, add a few drops of your favourite essential oil, get your favourite towel + robe ready, play some music, make yourself a tea and soak until your toes are wrinkly! Ditch your phone and really spend time just being present. Take the time YOU deserve to truly unwind from the stressors of everyday life. I promise, this will leave you feeling relaxed and recharged.
DIY Facial
I love a good facial, especially in the winter months. If you want to treat yourself to some TLC, this is one way to do it! While store bought face masks can be great, this DIY one is even better:
Ingredients
1tsp of honey (preferably organic)
1tsp of coconut oil
½ a small avocado
1-2 drops of lavender essential oil (optional)
Mash the avocado and add your other ingredients, mix until it has a smooth consistency. This mask always leaves my skin glowing. Lavender helps with any redness and the avocado and coconut oil offer deep hydration (which we ALL need right about now!).
Manicure + Pedicure
One of the quickest, easiest ways to get a pick-me-up is to have my nails nicely painted. I’m not sure there is a scientific reason why, but it works - every single time! During the pandemic I invested in some really great nail polish colours that could carry me from one season to the next and I love to make time to have my nails nicely painted. Show yourself some love, light a candle, put on your favourite feel good movie and paint those nails! Make an experience out of it. Take the time for you (because your nails will smudge otherwise!) and don’t rush! Enjoy pampering yourself because those busy hands deserve it!
Self-love looks different for everyone - the most important thing is that we all make it a priority! This time of year is the perfect time to start prioritizing YOU!
