This is the time of year most of us are packing our bags and heading to the airport for a much needed vacation, far away from home! Unfortunately for most of us, that is not the case and we are having to get really creative with how to enjoy our time off. Staycations are definitely here to stay (at least for now) and I’m
here to tell you it’s not that bad! There are so many fun things you can do, right here, right now.
Get in Touch with Nature
Nature walks are one of my favourite ways to spend the day during my staycation. There are different trails in every city, each offering something a little bit different. Some have waterfalls, some have creeks, and some have beaches. Whichever route you decide to take, make it fun! Pack a backpack with snacks, drinks and a picnic blanket to make it an all-day adventure. If you’re bringing kids along with you, turn it into a scavenger hunt - kids LOVE scavenger hunts.
Beach Day Staycation
A day at the beach is another great way to spend time off. Whether you have kids or not, a staycation can always include a beach day. Pack up a cooler full of your favourite snacks, sandwiches and cold drinks. Head to the beach well before lunch to ensure you get prime seating and relax! Bring a frizbee, some sand toys (if bringing kids along) and enjoy what your own backyard has to offer!
Spa Day - Yes Please!
My all-time favourite way to spend any time off is a day at the spa. After the year we have had, a spa day is just what we all need! Whether you choose to go to a spa close to home or a one a couple hours away, you won’t regret making the time to do it! Sometimes we all just need a little bit of time to ourselves to recharge so we can be the best version of ourselves for those we love.
Hotel Staycation
Just because we might have limitations travelling, doesn’t mean we can’t get creative. Book that nearby hotel even if it’s just for a night. Pack your bags and get away from the dishes, laundry, work and anything else that prevents you from truly enjoying the day. Go to the patio for dinner, have a nice glass of wine on the balcony, sit on a park bench while you drink a hot tea or coffee, embrace whatever your hotel stay has to offer. Whether you have kids or not, this is a great staycation option. Most kids love staying in a hotel and the change of scenery can do wonders for the whole family!
For the Kiddos - Splash Pad + Park Visit
Another great way to spend a day during your staycation if you have kids is a day at the splash pad. There are public splash pads in many communities and it’s a great way for kids to spend those extremely hot days (especially if you don’t have a pool!). Bring your picnic blanket, food for the day, and water to stay hydrated. Pick a spot in the shade and plan to sit and enjoy all day long. Most splash pads also have a park attached making it double the fun!
Don’t forget your children’s Ponchos and Oversized Towels which are compact and quick drying, perfect for all activities during your staycation.
